A standard 84-inch sofa takes about 14 yards of 54-inch plain fabric; a 96-inch sofa takes 16, and sectionals run 24 to 28. Patterned fabric adds 10-25% depending on the repeat. These are workroom planning numbers. Always confirm final yardage with your upholsterer.

Multiply rod width by your fullness (2.5x for pinch pleat), divide by the fabric width and round up. That is how many fabric widths you need. Cut length is finished length plus about 16 inches for hems and header, rounded up to a full pattern repeat. Example: a 100-inch rod at 2.5x fullness in 54-inch fabric needs 5 widths; at a 96-inch finished length that is 5 × 112 inches ≈ 16 yards.
