This builder covers the four documents that carry almost every photography engagement: the session contract that sets the terms, the model release that lets you use the images, the print release that lets your client order prints, and the invoice that gets you paid. Session contract. The master agreement: who, what, when, the fee and retainer, the payment schedule, your cancellation and rescheduling policy, who owns the copyright and what the client may do with the images, and how many edited photos arrive by when. Add clauses for RAW files, a second shooter and a model release with a checkbox.
Model release. The subject's written permission to use their likeness, essential for any commercial, advertising or stock use, and required by most agencies. Includes a minor's clause for a parent or guardian to sign.
Print release. A short authorization that lets your client print the delivered images at any lab. You keep the copyright; they get the go-ahead the lab asks for.
Invoice. Line items, tax, deposit already paid and the balance due, totaled automatically, dated, numbered and ready to send.

Is a photography contract legally binding?
A contract becomes binding once both parties sign it and there is an exchange of value (the fee for the photography). The documents this tool produces are customizable templates covering the standard terms (parties, fee, cancellation, image rights and delivery), but they are not legal advice. Have a qualified attorney in your state review any agreement before you rely on it.
Ano should a photography contract include?
The essentials are the names of both parties, the session details (date, location, type), the total fee and retainer, the payment schedule, a cancellation and rescheduling policy, image rights and usage (who owns the copyright and what the client may do), the delivery timeline and number of edited images, and signature lines. Optional clauses cover RAW files, second shooters and model releases.
Ano is a model release and when do I need one?
A model release is the subject's written permission to use their likeness. You need one whenever recognizable people appear in images you intend to use commercially, for advertising, stock or promotion. Editorial and personal use generally do not require a release, but a signed release removes ambiguity and is required by most stock agencies and commercial clients.
A print release is a short document in which the photographer, who owns the copyright, grants the client permission to print the delivered images at a lab of their choice for personal use. It is not a copyright transfer, only permission to print so a lab will accept the order without a photographer's release on file.
